A day in the life…
August 12, 2008
From Deirdre Fitzpatrick/ Sacramento:
For those of you who think we lead a really glamorous life in Beijing, this is for you.
The Hearst Argyle Olympic Team is responsible for doing live reports for nearly 30 stations across the country.
That means each day we spend six straight hours up on top of the Beijing Convention Center going live from coast to coast.
Make no mistake. We have a good time.
But the day is pretty intense. And, the food can be …well…judge for yourself.
Soup For You

The Chinese people love soup, but for breakfast?
Every morning, at my hotel, we are treated to eggs, toast, bacon, cereal and soup!
The chef would not let me take his picture, but this is his dumpling soup station. He takes dumplings filled with pork and drops them in the vat of boiling water. Then he takes them out and put them in a bowl. Add broth from the pan sitting in the boiling water and your favorite toppings, and voila, dumpling soup for breakfast. Not bad.
Sorry I’m late
August 6, 2008
So this is me…
after 23 hours of airports and planes. I think I was trying to smile but that memory is a little fuzzy.
So why I’m late to the blog is complicated and I won’t bore you with all the details, but I will say that I think I’m cursed. Just about every piece of electronic equipment that I have touched has had an issue. From the Camera I shoot with, down to my hotel keycard, which, in seven days, I’ve had replaced four times.
But things are good now. Things are working and so here I am.
A quick tour of my last week.
Right away we were welcomed. Signs of the Olympics are everywhere from the “Olympic” lanes we used to speed to our hotel room…
The the view from that very same hotel.
This city is impressive, just looking at it makes you excited to be here
.
We were greated with amazing buildings and clear blue skies…but as we would later find out. This would be more of a typical Beijing day.
My First shoot was in Tiananmen Sq, where I realized that to the locals we are part of the spectacle.
This was one of the frist of hunderds of locals who stopped to take pictures of, and with, us. At one point I literally had a line of people waiting. It was a very weird feeling.
And finally…
The outskirts of the Forbidden city. We couldn’t stop there that day but I hope to get back there before this is over.
So here I am… finally
