Advice from the pro...

“The best thing is — if you don’t know anything about the sport — audience reaction. When you see something and people are ooh-ing and aah-ing, you know that’s something special.” -Three-time Olympian Dominique Dawes

Her team leotard is in the Smithsonian and she’s got a gold medal in her trophy case, but that just doesn’t cut the mustard for three-time Olympic gymnast Dominique Dawes. She’s heading to her 4th Olympic games in Beijing this summer — but not to compete. Dawes will be working as an analyst for Yahoo! Sports.

Will she miss the leotards?

Taping up her ankles?

Smearing on the chalk?

The rarefied air up there on the Medal Stand?

No. No. No. and No, she told me during an interview today.

“It would only be wierd if I was not over the fact that my career was over. If I was still lost and wishing that I had a leotard on and was out there flipping. But I”m very comfortable in the new role that I’m in. I’m excited.” Excited, as well, for the sweet bonus she gets in her new job. “At Olympic Trials, there were sweets and stuff. And I was like, ‘this was not in our hospitality room when I was an athlete!!!’”
